I am pregnant with my first child. People often ask me what my birth plan is and I have decided not to make one. In truth, it's a loose one...I have an OBGYN and I will deliver at Cedars, hopefully naturally.

Of course, many of us pray for (what we believe will be) the perfect delivery and some of us will be disappointed. Your bravery and acceptance and acknowledgement of an unplanned C-section has given me courage and affirmed what I have been feeling from the start; Stay true to your ideals, but acknowledge the variables.

So often, I read about women who are traumatized by the diversion of their birth plan. This has been more frightening to me than the idea of breaking down for the epidural or having an unplanned c-section. I am SO relieved to hear the story of a woman who mourned, accepted, and moved on with what was required for the birth of her child.

I will be sharing your story with other women in hopes that they gather the same courage I have.

Thank you again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-123172070680416651.post-48879325941378140962011-09-03T07:19:06.433-07:002011-09-03T07:19:06.433-07:00Ok, I've never read your blog, but I found thi...Ok, I've never read your blog, but I found this story through Lovely Morning. I was moved to tears. My labor was also confusing and over-whelming and resulted in pitocin and an epidural, but the end result makes it all worth it - a beautiful, healthy, amazing child. He was my first C-section, and i too labored and labored & didn't progress & didn't respond to pitocin...it was difficult to end up with a cesarean after laboring for so long, but just seeing his sweet little face made it all worth it! Then had my baby taken to NICU for 2 days. My little fella is 5 months old now and I remember vividly how it felt when things started going off track, and how disappointed and scared I felt as the interventions started. But ultimately I am ok and my baby was ok, and although I was hoping to be able to have a totally natural drug free delivery I have accepted that it was not to be that time around. Hoping that if we are lucky enough to have another one I'll get another chance at the birth I want, but if not, that's ok too. At that moment everything changed and my Iris wasn't coming down. Her birth was nothing like I had planned and yet it was perfect because it was HER story and not mine. It's a journey learning to work through the emotions of a c-section. All I can say is give yourself lots of grace. You were there for your daughter in EVERY way possible. We don't know what birth is like until we are in it. We think it's about planning and reaching our goals in birth but it's really about surrender. You, my friend, surrendered beautifully for the life of your daughter.kdnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00976112691585288910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-123172070680416651.post-42944403994090329302011-08-18T10:13:24.880-07:002011-08-18T10:13:24.880-07:00I'm not sure I've wept more reading a birt...I'm not sure I've wept more reading a birth story... this is such an amazing journey that you've shared with us. I had a similar experience with my daughter--after planning a water birth at a midwife center. I ended up being induced at 42+1 weeks and eventually, with an emergency c-section similar to yours. It was heartbreaking in certain ways, but fine, because it was necessary in my case, too. Your daughter is lovely and you are a strong, brave woman.
